Stay Informed, Stay Sustainable
In our ongoing commitment to transparency and environmental responsibility, Metaplast Ltd would like to update our valued customers on an important development – a change in the Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) set to take effect from April 1, 2024.
The Plastic Packaging Tax Explained
Introduced in 2022, the UK Plastic Packaging Tax requires businesses to declare the weight of plastic packaging they handle, with a key focus on components lacking a minimum of 30% recycled plastic. As a manufacturer exceeding 10 tonnes of plastic packaging annually, Metaplast Ltd is mandated by law to account for and collect the PPT on behalf of HMRC.
Upcoming Changes
From April 1, 2024, the per tonne rate for PPT will increase from £210.82 to £217.85. This means that products supplied from this date onwards will be subject to the new tax rate. The Plastic Packaging Tax will be clearly outlined as a separate line on invoices for plastic Jerry Cans, bottles, buckets, caps, and lids.
Exemptions to Note
Metaplast Ltd is proud to offer exemptions in line with our commitment to sustainability:
- Plastic containers with at least 30% PCR / PIR content: Emphasizing our dedication to environmentally friendly practices, we are expanding our range of 30% PCR plastic containers, which now includes buckets.
- Plastic containers exported outside the UK: If containers are supplied on an Ex-Works basis and destined for a location outside the UK, a credit against the originally charged PPT will be issued upon receipt of appropriate export documentation.
Our Continued Commitment
At Metaplast Ltd, our dedication to quality and sustainability remains unwavering. We understand that changes like these can raise questions. Therefore, we encourage our customers to reach out with any inquiries or concerns. We are here to assist you through these transitions and ensure a smooth, informed process.
